Pediatric urology is one of the most sought subspecialities of the field of urology. All around in the world pediatric urology is identified as a subspecialty of urology for very long. Conditions like hypospadias VUR and epispadias require a highly thoughtful well-versed approach and that is why there was a compulsion to recognize pediatric urology as a subspeciality. Better and extended understanding of many of these congenital conditions requires proper insight and standardization of surgical and non-surgical management. We as a team aim to make Paediatric Urology an integral part of Urology along with continuous efforts in improving the requisite skill and strive to create and enhance the knowledge in taking this sup-specialty to newer heights under the umbrella of the urological society of India.

Pediatric urology is the subspecialty of Urology concerned with clinical recognition, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of congenital as well as acquired problems of the genitourinary system. It encompasses the age commencing from the antenatal period (where antenatal hydronephrosis is the most common ultrasound detected abnormality) up to 18 years. Most of these problems would require a well-trained and proficient urologist with an inclination as well as expertise in managing infants’ and children’s problems (both non-surgical and surgical), which demand not only thorough knowledge in urology but also an understanding and learning of the Paediatrics subject and age group.
We believe that super-specialty branches are founded and created depending on the system (e.g Cardio-vascular, Neurosurgery, Genitor-urinary system). Therefore, a urologist stands the best chance of managing these patients right from the intrauterine period up to adolescence. Besides, it also demands the need for a dedicated urologist who is willing to take a few extra steps to learn how to manage this age group. It also necessitates that the urologist should have leadership skills and competence in formulating a team involving pediatricians, anaesthetists, etc.
